The first time I baked these cheesy jalapeño sweet tea biscuit balls, my kitchen filled with a savory aroma that immediately brought everyone around the table, eager to try them right out of the oven.
Ingredients
- All-purpose flour: 2 cups
- Baking powder: 1 tbsp
- Baking soda: 1/2 tsp
- Salt: 1/2 tsp
- Granulated sugar: 2 tbsp
- Sharp cheddar cheese, shredded: 1 1/2 cups
- Jalapeños, seeded and finely diced: 2 medium
- Unsalted butter, cold and cubed: 1/2 cup
- Strongly brewed sweet tea, chilled: 1/2 cup
- Whole milk: 1/2 cup
- Apple cider vinegar: 1 tsp
- Melted butter: 2 tbsp (optional garnish)
- Flaky sea salt: for sprinkling (optional garnish)
Instructions
- Prepare Oven:
- Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Make Buttermilk:
- In a small bowl, combine whole milk and apple cider vinegar. Let stand 5 minutes.
- Mix Dry Ingredients:
- In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and sugar.
- Cut in Butter:
- Using a pastry cutter or fingertips, blend cold cubed butter into dry mixture until coarse crumbs form.
- Add Cheddar and Jalapeños:
- Stir in shredded cheddar and diced jalapeños.
- Combine Wet Ingredients:
- Add chilled sweet tea and buttermilk mixture to bowl. Gently fold until a soft, slightly sticky dough forms. Do not overmix.
- Shape Biscuit Balls:
- Form dough into 1 1/2-inch balls with a cookie scoop or hands. Arrange on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake:
- Bake 13 to 15 minutes until golden brown.
- Finishing Touch:
- Immediately brush hot biscuit balls with melted butter and sprinkle flaky sea salt, if desired. Serve warm.
